Paddle Europe Expands Programme with II Races and Mixed K2 Test Event and Montemor to showcase inclusion and new race formats in June
The 2026 Paddle Europe Sprint, Paracanoe and Masters European Championships in Montemor-o-Velho High Performance Centre will feature two key initiatives aimed at expanding inclusion and testing new competition formats.
On Saturday, 13 June, the programme will include the Intellectual Impairment (II) Demonstration Races, held in cooperation with Special Olympics Europe and following the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2025. The races will include K1 and Unified K2 200m events for men and women, providing athletes with intellectual impairments the opportunity to compete within the European Championships framework.
The following day, Sunday, 14 June, a KL3 Mixed K2 200m test event will take place after the official paracanoe finals. The race will feature crews composed of one male and one female KL3 athlete and may include paddlers from different nations sharing the same boat.
Both initiatives are part of Paddle Europe’s ongoing efforts to broaden participation and explore new competitive formats within the sport.
