As part of the event’s sustainability programme, the Championships introduced the Champions Forest project, replacing the traditional flower bouquets awarded to winners with a more enduring symbol of achievement. For every champion crowned during the competition, a native tree will be planted, creating a living forest of approximately 130 trees.
The initiative aims to leave a positive environmental legacy while promoting biodiversity and responsible event management. To maximise growth and survival rates, the trees will be planted during the optimal planting season in October and November 2026.
Athletes and supporters will be able to follow the development of the project through the Championships’ official communication channels and social media platforms, where updates from the planting event will be shared.
Each medallist received a symbolic tree-shaped token made from recycled cardboard and marked with a unique identification number. Through a dedicated online platform, athletes will be able to track the growth of their tree and remain connected to the environmental impact of their sporting achievement.
According to the organisers, the Champions Forest reflects a broader commitment to sustainability and demonstrates how major sporting events can contribute to positive change beyond competition itself.
“Every tree planted will stand as a symbol of excellence, perseverance and respect for the natural environment that makes our sport possible,” the organisers said.
