To the delight of the home crowd, Portuguese paracanoe athlete Norberto Mourão continued his winning streak, successfully defended the title he won last year, and once again became European champion in the men's VL2 200 event. He won with a time of 52.242, just 0.1 seconds faster than Spain’s Higinio Rivero, who finished third at last year’s championships. Roman Serebriakov (AIN-A) took the bronze medal.
In the men's VL3 200 event, there was also no new name at the top of the podium. Ukraine’s Vladyslav Yepifanov successfully defended the European title he won last year in Račice, edging out Great Britain’s Stuart Wood by just 0.090 seconds in a very close race. France’s Abel Aber finished third.
Great Britain maintained its dominance in the women’s events. On the final day of competition, Emma Wiggs won the European title in the women’s VL2 200 event, while Hope Gordon was the fastest in the KL3 final. Behind Emma Wiggs, who is also the reigning Paralympic champion, Anastasia Miasnikova (AIN-B) and Ekaterina Statsenko (AIN-A) completed the podium in the VL2 200 final.
Hope Gordon won the KL3 200 final by a margin of one second over the rest of the field. France’s Nelia Barbosa paddled to second place, while Poland’s Katarzyna Sobczak secured the bronze medal.
The women’s VL1 200 event was also contested, with Aleksandra Dupik (AIN-A) taking victory ahead of Italy’s Viktoryia Shablova. A mixed KL 200 event was held as a demonstration race. The German-Georgian pairing of Felicia Laberer and her Serhii Yemelianov claimed victory ahead of the Spanish duo Juan Valle and Araceli Menduina, while Poland’s Katarzyna Sobczak and Mateusz Surwilo finished third.
