Hungary and Germany lead European sprint campaign

Hungary delivered the strongest overall European performance in Brandenburg with eight medals, including five golds. The Hungarian team once again demonstrated exceptional depth across both kayak and canoe disciplines, particularly in middle-distance racing and crew boats.

Germany followed closely with seven medals and consistently reached podium positions throughout the weekend. Racing on home water, the German team confirmed its status as one of the leading nations of the current Olympic cycle.

Spain also impressed with four medals and strong consistency across sprint canoe events, while Ukraine, Italy, Czechia and Poland all added podium finishes.

One of the standout individual European performances came from Martin Fuksa, who once again underlined his dominance in men’s canoe with victory in the C1 Men 1000m.

Portugal also secured an important home-continent medal through Messias Baptista, who claimed bronze in the K1 Men 200m.

European athletes in focus

Among the European women, Germany’s Pauline Jagsch emerged as one of the most successful athletes of the regatta, contributing to three German medals across women’s kayak crew events.

On the men’s side, several European paddlers finished with multiple medals, including Germany’s Max Rendschmidt and Jacob Schopf, as well as Hungary’s Sandor Totka and Bence Nadas, highlighting the depth of Europe’s elite K4 programmes.

Hungary’s women’s canoe squad also confirmed itself as one of the strongest units internationally, led by Agnes Anna Kiss and Bianka Nagy.

Strong European presence in paracanoe

The Brandenburg World Cup also marked the first major paracanoe World Cup competition of the season, and European nations immediately established a strong presence.

Great Britain led the European medal standings in paracanoe with three medals, while Ukraine secured gold and Georgia also reached the top of the podium.

The results provided an important early benchmark ahead of a crucial international season leading toward the next Paralympic qualification cycle.

Attention now turns to Montemor-o-Velho

The international season now rapidly shifts toward the continent’s biggest event of the summer. In less than one month, Europe’s best paddlers will reunite in Montemor-o-Velho for the 2026 European Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe Championships.

Following the performances seen in Brandenburg, the European Championships promise to deliver one of the highest competitive levels of the season, with many of the World Cup medalists expected to battle again for continental titles on Portuguese water.
